Intensive early behavioral intervention with children with autism has produced wonderful results. FABAS provides a variety of services (consultation, habilitation and respite) to assist families in establishing and maintaining an Intensive Behavioral Treatment program (IBT) or (ABA) intervention at home. The intervention aims to improve all areas of the child’s behavior repertoire. Initial emphasis is made on functional behaviors that can quickly impact the quality of life of the child and family.

The intensity of the intervention is not necessarily the time that a tutor provided by FABAS works directly with the child. The real intensity comes from the application that the parents are able implement throughout the day. The parents are the most important people in the intervention. The goal of FABAS is to empower the parent with the most effective strategies that they can use in a natural manner during all everyday activities.

The strategies recommended are from the field of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). The teaching method does not require forcing or coaxing the child to perform. Children learn to willingly comply when they are allowed to access preferred items and activities as they respond appropriately. Having the parents learn to remain calm (not coax) and allow the contingency to work (pick up the blocks so you may watch TV) is a critical part of the strategy.
