Positive behavioral support (PBS) is normally considered a program that establishes and promotes the pro-social and academic behavior of one student or of all the students in a school. Naturally, impacting the whole school is more in line with the ecological principles of the behavioral approach. As the name indicates, PBS relies on positive strategies for establishing and maintaining appropriate behavior, it uses the methods derived from the science of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and it permanently supports appropriate behavior by designing procedures that may stay in place instead of curative interventions that need to be withdrawn. Although many schools inquire about this program with the specific intention of reducing bullying, the program is truly preventive and geared to maintain all pro-social behavior.
